Adderbury Day of Dance - 25th April, 2015

Our Day of Dance is anticipated and eagerly looked forward too throughout the winter months.  It's a spring time celebration, a "jolly" outing to be enjoyed by the whole family with food and drink to accompany the event.

Morris Dancing is English Folk Dancing, part of our cultural history, modern, contemporary and inclusive.  We cherish its form and step, its music and the costumes worn by its exponents, which thrill the bystander and enthusiast alike, with their bells, sticks, white handkerchiefs and flower-garlanded hats.

It's long history from 14th century courtly dance, to the 17th century peasantry, to the Reformation under Charles 11....to  post WW1 when so many dancers were lost,,,,,,to the 20th century folklore revival of steps and dances being rediscovered, to the present day's explosion of interest, following and re-creation for this iconic English pastimes.

We have three teams of Morris dancers in Adderbury - the Adderbury Village Morris Men, Adderbury Morris Men and Sharp and Blumt - our femail Morris dancing team.

Saturday was bright and clear with a sharp wind which did little to stop family and friends gathering around the village green and pubs, to watch the dancing while enjoying a glass of beer and a hot dog.  We had coffee from Buzzy Beans Coffee, chatted to friends at the Market By the Green at The Institute and lunch at The Coach and Horses, all of which made for a very pleasant Adderbury village day.

Here's a few photos of our day, to show you just what you missed...!!!

Here's to more happy weekends of events and happenings!!!
